Lewisian Gneiss - Outer Hebrides Carved Egg

Lewisian Gneiss - Outer Hebrides Carved Egg

Painstakingly carved and polished natural Lewisian Gneiss with green epidote, in an ornamental egg shape.  Weighing approximately 85g and measuring roughly 43x32mm, it comes with the Indian Hematite ring stand in the photographs.

You will receive the egg in the photos, which has been photographed at different angles.  Beautiful natural colouring and patterning. A stunning little piece from the outer hebrides, making a worthy heirloom or collector's piece!  Will arrive carefully packed in a tartan pouch, with a colourful Lewisian story card.

  • Lewisian comes from the Isles of Lewis, Harris and North Highlands. It is collected from the ancient bedrock of Scotland and is one of the oldest rocks in the world, up to 3 billion years old (3,000,000,000 years!). It is a unique composition of many minerals including Feldspar, Epidote and Quartz, all of which are part of the "Lewisian Gneiss" complex.   Lewisian has been treasured for thousands of years by the clans of Scotland. It was used by the Megalithic cultures to construct monuments such as the Calanais stone circle on the Isle of Lewis.
