Aquamarine

The birthstone for March, Aquamarine is a pale light blue to light seafoam green variety of Beryl. The name comes from the Latin words for 'water' (aqua) and 'of the sea' (marine). The gemstone has historically been associated with youth and happiness, with the ancient Greeks & Romans also believing it could protect sailors from drowning. Aquamarine which has a natural, intense blue colour is rare and therefore expensive. Fun fact: Aquamarine become the state gem of Colorado in 1971!
